BetterYou urges importance of vitamin D for children as new research links breastfed youngsters to deficiency – News-Medical.net

Fresh research linking breastfed youngsters to vitamin D deficiency has again prompted health pioneers BetterYou to urge the importance of vitamin D supplementation for children.

According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, breastfed children who do not receive vitamin D supplements are at risk of vitamin D deficiency, especially if breastfeeding extends beyond one year.

Breast milk does not provide enough vitamin D, particularly for people in northern parts of the world where the mother may be deficient herself, says Dr Jonathon Maguire, a paediatrician and researcher at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

BetterYou’s revolutionary daily oral vitamin sprays DLuxInfant and DLuxJunior can help boost vitamin D levels in deficient children aged from 6 months to 15 years old.

BetterYou who are at the forefront of research into vitamin D levels and whose range of popular vitamin D oral sprays are recommended by the NHS, are keen to educate about the importance of maintaining your vitamin D levels.

Andrew Thomas, founder and managing director of BetterYou, said:

The UK Department of Health highlights children under five years as an at risk group for vitamin D deficiency and recommend that they should be given a daily supplement.

Sadly vitamin D deficiency is becoming commonplace with around 1 in 6 children, having low vitamin D status. By your child taking just one spray a day of our DLux oral sprays, you can ensure your child’s vitamin D levels can be effectively managed.

BetterYou’s award winning DLuxInfant daily vitamin D oral spray is suitable from 6 months old and provides 300IU of vitamin D (the recommended daily intake by the Department of Health) with each daily spray. It has a great natural strawberry flavour and can be used in conjunction with formulation milk. DLuxInfant recently picked up a gong at the Boots Maternity & Infant Awards.

Claire Burkhill, from Doncaster has been supplementing her one year old daughter Scarlett with DLuxInfant since December. Claire said:

It was at Scarlett’s one year check-up that my health visitor said how important taking vitamin D was at her age. I was concerned how she was going to take a tablet but then found BetterYou’s DLuxInfant spray specifically for her age group.

The spray is so easy to give her and as soon as I pick it up she opens her mouth ready – she loves the taste. DLuxInfant makes giving her this essential vitamin no problem – one spray a day and we’re good to go.

DLuxJunior daily vitamin D oral spray is suitable for children from 5 years of age and provides 400IU of vitamin D (the recommended daily intake by the Department of Health) with each daily spray. It has a great natural peppermint flavour which is great for kids and is a fast, convenient and effective way to top up your child’s vitamin D.

Sky Cracknell from London has supplemented her children (Bloom, 8 and Beeches, 2) with DLux oral vitamin D sprays for the last couple of years.

Sky says:

Unlike with Bloom, I was given a vitamin D supplement by the health visitor for Beeches when he was born. As this was new to me I started to look into the need for vitamin D and also where to get another supplement from. I have been using BetterYou products across the range for some years now and was delighted to find they did age appropriate doses with the DLux sprays.

They love the taste and we all take our supplements every morning. Especially with my oldest, I feel they live such intense lives with so much going on and pressure from school that it is essential to make sure that they get what they need.

I would describe both of my children as robustly healthy with hardly any incidence of poor health. This hasn’t always been the case for my daughter and I am sure that has been helped by the vitamin D supplementation.

Vitamin D promotes the development and maintenance of bones and teeth, supports a healthy immune system and aids muscle development.

Multiple clinical trials have found that oral vitamin sprays elevate serum vitamin D levels on average 50% faster than traditional tablets and capsules.

Researchers at Cardiff University, when testing BetterYou’s DLux vitamin D oral sprays, found that absorption within the mouth was far superior to the more traditional digestive route of tablets and capsules.
